Multinational Medical Device Manufacturers Face Stiff Local Competition in China

China is now the worldâs second largest market for medical equipment, behind the U.S. Hospitals have purchased imaging and diagnostic equipment in compliance with the 2009 health reform that included a $124 billion stimulus package to build medical clinics in every village and guarantee access to hospital services in every county.
Roche Diagnostics, Medtronic and General Electric were the largest importers of medical equipment and devices into China in 2011, according to a Chinese trade association.
