ACL Surgery Worth The Price

Anterior cruciate ligament or ACL reconstruction is more cost-effective than rehabilitation for treating tears, a common knee injury, according to a recent cost-utility analysis.

Dr. Richard Mather, assistant professor, department of Orthopaedic surgery, Duke University Medical Center and lead author of the study said the study may aid in treatment decisions for the more than 200,000 ACL injuries reported annually in the U.S. ACL reconstruction provided a cost reduction of $4503 and a quality-adjusted life year(QALY ) gain of 0.18.
