Overfishing, global warming and pollution are having detrimental effects on the world’s oceans, according to scientists. McDonald’s Corp., the world’s largest restaurant chain by sales, announced last week that it has taken steps to address that. By February, it will be the first national restaurant chain to sell sustainable fish certified by the Marine Stewardship Council in over 14,000 stores across the U.S. This means that all of the chain’s Alaska pollock – a fish the chain has served since 1992 – will be certified as being sustainably caught. Dan Gorsky, senior vice president of U.S supply chain and sustainability, tells Bloomberg New Energy Finance’s Agnes Teh about what it took to get there.
